SUVA, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed on Thursday in a house fire on the outskirts of Labasa, capital city of Vanua Levu, Fiji's second largest island, which is in the northern part of the nation.

According to Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) on Thursday, when the house fire took place on Thursday morning, the owner of the house, a neighbour and two other women are believed to have been trapped inside the house and all the four women are believed to be in their 70s.

The 35-year-old son of the house owner said that the fire is believed to have started from his mother's room. He tried to save his mother and other people but failed to do so because of the big fire and smoke.

He said that they were having continuous disputes with some people in their area and he alleged that their house was set on fire.

The Fijian police are investigating the cause of the fire, saying that the investigation is still in its early stages and they cannot speculate until the real cause of the fire is determined. Enditem
