Vietnam's enterprise establishment down 13.2 pct in 4 months

HANOI, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 37,600 enterprises with total registered capital of 445.2 trillion Vietnamese dong (roughly 19.4 billion U.S. dollars) were set up in Vietnam in the first four months of this year, down 13.2 percent in quantity and 17.9 percent in capital from the same period last year.

Of the new firms, 33.8 percent were involved in wholesales, retails and automobile and motorbike repairs, 13.3 percent in construction, 12.8 percent in manufacturing and processing industries, and 9.2 percent in science, technology and consulting services, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Monday.

Between January and April, more than 17,800 firms that had temporarily ceased operations due to different difficulties resumed their activities, posting a year-on-year increase of 2.1 percent. Meanwhile, nearly 22,700 enterprises have their operation temporarily ceased, up 33.6 percent, and over 5,100 enterprises were dissolved, down 3.8 percent.

Last year, Vietnam saw 138,100 enterprises established with total registered capital of over 1,730 trillion Vietnamese dong (75.2 billion U.S. dollars), up 5.2 percent in quantity and up 17.1 percent in capital against 2018. Enditem
