Guinea-Bissau reports 156 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 within 72 hours

BISSAU, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Guinea-Bissau on Monday reported 156 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the past 72 hours, bring the country's total number of confirmed cases to 413, Dionisio Cumba, member of the Interministerial Commission of COVID-19 prevention and control, announced in Bissau.

"Among those infected, there are 15 medical staff who tested positive for COVID-19," Cumba revealed, adding that "all of these cases community transmission cases".

Facing the rapid progression of community cases, the health authorities of Guinea-Bissau called on again on the population to remain vigilant and comply with the preventive measures.

Five government members of Guinea-Bissau already tested positive for COVID-19, including Prime Minister Nuno Gomes Na Biam, Minister of Public Health Antonio Deuna, Minister of the Interior, Botche Cande, the Secretary of State for Public Order, Mario Fambe, and the Secretary State for Regional Integration, Monica Buaro da Costa.

In order to fight against the spread of the pandemic, the government of Guinea-Bissau has decided it is necessary to maintain the restrictive measures that have already been in place, including the closing of borders, restaurants, bars, places of worships and schools, and banning gathering of people.

President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo announced on April 26 to extend the state of emergency across the country till May 11.

So far, Guinea-Bissau has reported 413 confirmed cases, including 19 cured cases and 1 death. Enditem
