TUNIS, May 4 (Xinhua) -- After about six weeks of general confinement imposed by Tunisian authorities across the country to confront the novel coronavirus, over three million Tunisians have returned to work on Monday in various sectors.

"Today, we are starting the first phase of the national strategy for partial lifting of lockdown, a step which was based on what had previously been achieved in relation to the decline in the speed of contamination," said Tunisian Minister of Health Abdellatif Mekki in a post on his official facebook page.

Tunisia started the first stage of the national strategy for partial lifting of lockdown which includes three stages, from May 4 to 24, from May 24 to June 4 and from June 4 to 14.

On April 29, the Tunisian government has identified the sectors involved in the first phase of the national strategy for partial lifting of lockdown, in particular those which are economically threatened such as transport, health, food, self-employment, artisans and services.

Tunisia reported on Sunday four new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of the infected to 1,013 in the country. Enditem
