KAMPALA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Monday said he has spoken to his counterparts in the East African region about the rising number of cross-border COVID-19 infections.
Museveni said in a televised address that he has talked with his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta, Tanzania's John Pombe Magufuli and Rwanda's Paul Kagame, to devise measures to combat the increase of novel coronavirus infections especially among cross-border cargo truck drivers.
Museveni said he will also discuss the matter with President Salva Kiir of South Sudan and Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"The matter of cargo drivers will be streamlined. The health ministers have been instructed by their leaders to harmonise on this issue," said Museveni.
Figures of the country's Ministry of Health showed that out of the 97 confirmed cases in Uganda, 36 were cargo truck drivers. Enditem
