ADEN, Yemen, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's health authorities recorded nine new cases of COVID-19 and one new death on Tuesday in two provinces controlled by the government.
According to a brief statement released by the country's supreme national emergency committee, eight new COVID-19 cases were registered in the southern port city of Aden and the other one in the southeastern province of Hadramout.
So far, 21 coronavirus cases have been detected in different areas of the war-ravaged Arab country, including three deaths. Only one patient has recovered.
On May 2, the World Health Organization said Yemen's fragile health system is facing catastrophic shortages after five years of war, while COVID-19 supplies in the country are grossly insufficient.
On April 10, Yemen's pro-government authorities recorded the first case of COVID-19 in Hadramout.
The Yemeni war erupted in late 2014, when the Iran-backed Houthi rebels seized control of much of the country's north and forced the Saudi-backed government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa. Enditem
