NAIROBI, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan and Somali leaders on Tuesday agreed on a joint investigation into the aircraft crash that killed six people in southwest of Somali on Monday.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta said he received a telephone call from his Somali counterpart Mohamed Farmajo who said Mogadishu has commenced probe into the incident to establish what led to the plane crash.

Kenyatta said in a statement that Farmajo informed him that he had instructed the civil aviation authorities to immediately mount an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash of this aircraft which was supporting humanitarian operations in the country.

"In this regard, President Farmajo invited the Kenyan civil aviation authorities to team with their Somali counterparts with a view to completing the investigations expeditiously," Kenyatta said in a statement issued after the telephone call.

Kenyatta said the Somali leader called to express his regret and convey condolences for the loss of life after a Kenyan-registered aircraft which crashed while landing at Bardale airport.

The Kenya-registered aircraft, 5Y-AXO, belonging to African Express crashed in Bardere, Somalia as it approached the airport under unclear circumstances.
