TASHKENT, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said Tuesday that he regrets the dam burst in Uzbekistan has also caused flooding in neighboring Kazakhstan and expressed willingness of his government to help in the aftermath of the disaster.

"We are very sorry that this unexpected technological disaster caused so many troubles and caused damage not only to our population, but also to our neighbors, our brothers, whose settlements and crops were also damaged," Mirziyoyev said at a government meeting.

The president said that Uzbekistan has already expressed its readiness to provide Kazakhstan with the necessary assistance to mitigate the consequences of the flooding.

Around 70,000 people have been evacuated since the Sardoba dam burst in the early hours of May 1, flooding residential areas and crop fields.

Uzbek authorities said four people were killed and one is still missing after the flood.

The dam burst flooded large areas in neighboring Kazakhstan where authorities said that they had to evacuate thousands of villagers. Enditem
