VILNIUS, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania's capital is hosting a "Mask Fashion Week," inviting people to show their creative face masks while walking or driving through the city, which is still under the strain of the coronavirus.

Drawing inspiration from the "Mask Your Fashion" Facebook group, the project also features 21 giant billboard photos of people wearing creative protective masks with the slogan "Creativity Cannot Be Masked," according to Go Vilnius, the official development agency of the City of Vilnius, one of the event's organizers.

"Protective face masks have become a mandatory accessory in Vilnius when out in public during the pandemic. However, it's impossible to cover up or mask creativity -- life shouldn't become grey just because of these new rules," Go Vilnius says on its website.

Initiated by Lithuanian designer Julia Janus, the Facebook group has already brought together hundreds of people interested in turning the mandatory protective masks into attractive accessories.

Janus, one of the organizers of "Mask Fashion Week," said that new times call for new measures and new forms of expression.

"While quarantine means isolation, which often exhausts people, creativity can be a balancing force that allows people to focus on something positive while bringing people closer."

Lithuania imposed a lockdown on March 16 to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The "Mask Fashion Week" lasts until 10 May. Enditem
