JAKARTA, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and four others were wounded as landslides struck West Sulawesi province in the central part of Indonesia, a disaster agency official said on Wednesday.

Heavy downpours triggered the natural disaster in Kelapa Dua village, Polewali Mandar district, on Tuesday night, spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency Raditya Jati disclosed.

Besides, the spokesman said, unstable soil condition in the scene also factored to the disaster.

The victims of the disaster have already been evacuated along with the opening of the access to the village as the landslides had previously cut a road, he said.

Landslides and floods happen frequently in Indonesia during heavy rains. Enditem
