HONG KONG, May 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries.

DHAKA -- The number of new infections in Bangladesh with the COVID-19 rose by 790 on Wednesday, the highest daily increase since March 8, bringing the total infections to 11,719.

Three deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across the country, taking fatalities to 186.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia has reported 367 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 12,438, the government confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

A total of 895 deaths have now been recorded in the country, an increase of 23 over the past 24 hours.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia recorded 135 COVID-19 patients who had been cured and discharged, bringing the total to 4,702 or 73.1 percent of all cases, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

A total of 45 new cases were reported, bringing the total cases to 6,428, of which 1,619 are still receiving treatment.

Of the new cases, 44 are local transmissions while the remaining one is an imported case.

MANILA -- The Philippines on Wednesday recorded 320 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of cases in the country to 10,004, health authorities said.

The country now has a total of 1,506 recoveries, with 98 more survivors recorded in the past 24 hours.

A total of, 21 new deaths have been tallied, bringing the country's death toll to 658.

KABUL -- Afghanistan on Wednesday reported 168 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing its total tally to 3,392, according to the country's Ministry of Public Health.

A total of 104 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic in February, an increase of nine over the past 24 hours.

BANGKOK -- Thailand reported one case of new COVID-19 and one fatality.

The total number of confirmed cases in the country stood at 2,989, and the death toll rose to 55.

VIENTIANE -- Laos reported no new case of COVID-19 for 24 consecutive days, with the total number of confirmed cases unchanged at 19, as no new case was confirmed.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported two more imported COVID-19 cases compared to 24 hours ago as of midnight Wednesday local time, raising the total number of infections to 10,806.

It was the lowest daily increase since Feb. 18. The daily caseload hovered below 20 for 19 straight days. The domestic infection logged zero for the third consecutive day.

One more death was confirmed, leaving the death toll at 255.

NEW DELHI -- India on morning reported 111 new deaths from COVID-19, and 2,680 positive cases since last evening in the country, taking the number of deaths to 1,694 and total cases to 49,391.

According to officials, so far 14,183 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported one more COVID-19 death on Wednesday, bring the death toll to 21 in the country.

Meanwhile, one confirmed and one probable cases were reported on Wednesday after no new cases for two consecutive days, bringing the total number of cases to 1,488.

MALE -- A second death related to COVID-19 was reported in the Maldives on Tuesday as the country's case count rose to 557, according to state media.

More than half of Maldives' 557 COVID-19 cases are of migrant workers, and the government has moved to transfer some migrants to state-run facilities while repatriating others in the coming weeks.
