DAMASCUS, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkey-backed rival rebels clashed on Thursday evening in the city of Afrin in northern Syria, a war monitor reported.

The clashes took place between the members of the Ahrar al-Sham group and the Jabha al-Shamiyeh in the Ashrafiyeh neighborhood in the center of Afrin in the northern countryside of Aleppo province, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Britain-based watchdog group said no reports have emerged about the casualties of the clashes.

It said the Ahrar al-Sham brought reinforcement forces to Afrin amid intense clashes with Jabha al-Shamiyeh.
