BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BELGRADE -- Serbia confirmed 89 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the overall number of infected to 10,032.

In the past 24 hours, Serbia tested 5,728 people, of which 1.55 percent were positive, according to information released Saturday afternoon by the country's Institute for Public Health.

BUCHAREST -- Romania has reported 320 new cases of COVID-19 infection and three new deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the total confirmed cases to 15,131 and 926 dead, fresh figures showed on Saturday.

As many as 10,776 tests have been carried out in the past 24 hours, the largest number of tests per day so far, with the total number of tests performed in the country reaching 248,056, according to the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), the government agency authorized to publish information on COVID-19.

MANILA -- The Philippines launched on Saturday a COVID-19 testing lab that China's biotech company BGI Group helped set up to ramp up the country's testing capacity.

The Asian Development Bank-funded pandemic sub-national reference laboratory Huo-Yan at the Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital in San Fernando City in Pampanga Province, north of Manila, will begin operating on Sunday.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 951 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total to 22,052, according to the country's health ministry.
