Djibouti COVID-19 cases reach 1,189 as 54 more confirmed

ADDIS ABABA, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Djibouti's Ministry of Health on Saturday announced 54 new COVID-19 confirmed cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Horn of Africa nation to 1,189.

The Djiboutian Ministry of Health, in a statement issued on Saturday, disclosed that from a total of 199 people who were tested over the last 24 hours, 54 were tested positive for the virus.

The ministry also announced that some 834 people who have been infected with the COVID-19 have recovered as of the stated period.

Djibouti has so far conducted a total of about 15,056 COVID-19 tests, according to the Djibouti Ministry of Health, which has reported three COVID-19 deaths.

Djibouti reported its first COVID-19 case on March 18.

Djibouti, which lies on a key location connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, hosts a number of foreign military bases. Enditem
