LONDON, May 9 (Xinhua) -- A Google Doodle with the annotation of "England's forgotten footballer, the incredible story of Frank Soo" was shown on the UK homepage of the search engine on Saturday, reminding people of the player with Chinese heritage to represent England.

Frank was born to a Chinese father and an English mother in 1914 in Derbyshire and later raised in Liverpool. He began his football career at the age of 18 before making his name at Stoke City.

On May 9, 1942, Soo played for England "the Three Lions" for the first time and made eight more international appearances but none were officially recognized as all of his nine appearances were non-official games held during the Second World War.

"Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, we have not been able to work on as many of our projects as we have wished, but the Google Doodle was an amazing opportunity we had been working on for a few months now," said Alan Lau, chairman of the Frank Soo Foundation. "In the short term, we hope that his story will help to bring a positive view on Chinese in Britain."

After retiring as a footballer, Soo spent most of his coaching career in Northern Europe, including a stint as the manager of the Norwegian national team. He passed away in Cheadle, England in 1991 at the age of 76.

In 2016, A book titled, "The Wanderer: The Story of Frank Soo" was published and author Susan Gardiner once said that there was little information she could find about Soo throughout Britain.

Soo is introduced as "football's forgotten man" on the website of the Frank Soo Foundation.

"Our main aims are to promote Frank's legacy and also promote football and sports in the Chinese and Asian communities in the UK," said Lau. Enditem
