Myanmar detainees from Malaysia arrive back home

YANGON, May 11 (Xinhua) -- A total of 391 Myanmar nationals who were detained at detention centers in Malaysia after being sentenced for various reasons arrived back home on Monday by a special flight, according to a release of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In order to retrieve the Myanmar national detainees from Malaysia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with concerned ministries of the Malaysian government, Myanmar embassy in Kuala Lumpur and Myanmar local government ministries under the guidelines of the National Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, said in the release.

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population and the Ministry of Health and Sports conducted the immigration and health screening process for them on their arrival at Yangon International Airport.

It is also learnt that the concerned state and regional governments are carrying out transportation for them to go back to their respective places and to put them under quarantine at a community based facility for 21 days.

Myanmar has reported 180 COVID-19 confirmed cases with six deaths as of Sunday since the infectious disease was first detected in the country on March 23. Enditem
