CHANGCHUN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Northeast China's Jilin Province reported two new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, local health authorities said Saturday.

The provincial health commission said the two domestically transmitted cases were close contacts of earlier confirmed cases in the cities of Jilin and Shulan.

By Friday, the province had reported a total of 121 locally transmitted confirmed cases, including one death and 92 who had been discharged from hospital after recovery. There are still 28 patients receiving treatment in hospital.

The Shulan City has further expanded the scope of nucleic acid testing to sub-close and general contacts of locally confirmed cases and asymptomatic cases. Seven hospitals in Jilin City assigned 300 nurses to help nucleic acid sampling work in Shulan.

The third-level national biosafety laboratory supported by the National Health Commission was set up in Shulan Wednesday to carry out nucleic acid testing. It coordinated with the third party sampling institutions of Jilin Province to ensure that all samples can be submitted on time. Enditem
