Russian COVID-19 cases rise to 317,554

MOSCOW, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Russia has confirmed 8,849 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising its total number of infections to 317,554, its coronavirus response center said in a statement Thursday.

The single-day increase has fallen below 10,000 for six consecutive days, the center's data showed.

The death toll grew by 127 to 3,099, while 92,681 people have now recovered, including 7,289 over the last 24 hours, according to the center.

Moscow, the country's worst-hit region, confirmed 2,913 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking its total to 155,219.

Russia's consumer rights and human well-being watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said Thursday that 277,317 people had been under medical observation as of Wednesday.

More than 7.8 million lab tests for COVID-19 have been conducted across the country so far, it added.

Currently, testing is available in 659 labs, including 107 Rospotrebnadzor labs, 459 at state medical organizations and 93 privately owned ones, it said. Enditem
