UN chief saddened by passenger plane crash in Pakistan

UNITED NATIONS, May 23 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was saddened by the loss of life and injury in a passenger airline crash in Karachi, Pakistan, said his spokesman on Saturday.

The secretary-general extended his deep condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the people and government of Pakistan. He wished a swift and full recovery to those who were injured, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a statement.

A passenger plane of the Pakistan International Airlines crashed into a densely populated residential area in the southern port city of Karachi on Friday. Rescue teams have recovered 97 bodies from the debris, the Pakistani army said on Saturday.

Some 17 people on the ground got multiple injuries, but all in stable condition, said press reports. Flight PK-8303 was flying from the eastern city of Lahore with 91 passengers and eight crew members on board. Enditem
