JERUSALEM, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli Ministry of Health reported 148 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number in the country to 18,180.

According to the ministry, the death toll increased by one case to 299, while the number of patients in serious condition increased from 29 to 31, out of 111 patients hospitalized.

The number of recoveries rose to 15,159, with 32 new ones, while the number of active cases grew to 2,722, the highest since May 20.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said the increase in morbidity in the country is becoming a dramatic event.

"We are advancing in a flight speed to over 200 new patients a day," the minister noted.

Violations of the guidelines led to this increase, he said, adding Israel is acting to increase the number of daily coronavirus tests from 16,000 to 30,000. Enditem
