ACCRA, June 9 (Xinhua) -- One has died and many have lost their homes in the floods caused by a continuing downpour in Accra, Ghana's capital, local officials confirmed here on Tuesday.

The rescue and relief mission led by the National Disaster Management Organization retrieved the body of the deceased who had been electrocuted during the rains.

Noel Nunoo, a local student, told Xinhua that the flood had washed away many of his valuables including cameras and laptops, and he urged the government to come and assist the victims in finding places to sleep.

"We managed to put our children on our back and found our way through the flood to come outside. We have been standing there for more than four hours, and even now, we have nowhere to sleep," said Ama Kuranchie, a resident of Taifa, a suburb of the capital. Enditem
