Egypt says to slightly shorten anti-coronavirus curfew

CAIRO, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Egypt will slightly shorten a nighttime curfew to control the spread of COVID-19, Minister of State for Information Osama Heikal said on Thursday.

The curfew hours will run from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. local time (1800 to 0200 GMT), instead of currently 8 p.m to 5 a.m., starting from Sunday till June 30, Heikal said.

He said that the working hours of the commercial centers and shops will be extended by one hour until 6 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, public beaches and parks will remain closed till the end of June, while sports clubs will open its doors for renewing memberships from June 15 to June 30.

Houses of worship will be opened starting from July 1 in the provinces with a reduced number of COVID-19 cases under strict precautionary measures.

Heikal added that tourism and aviation services will be resumed in some coastal provinces as of July 1.

Egypt recorded 1,455 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the tally to 38,284 and the death toll to 1,342 since the outbreak in mid-February. Enditem
