TOKYO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Japan Airlines Co. (JAL) said Monday it will completely reopen Terminal 1 at Tokyo's Haneda Airport for domestic flights at the beginning of July, as passengers are expected to increase as further coronavirus restrictions regarding cross-prefectural travel are lifted.

JAL closed its North Wing departure lobby in April as passenger numbers slumped amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

But following the government saying that from Friday people will no longer be requested to refrain from taking trips outside their own prefectures, JAL will resume operations from July 1, it said.

Japan's flagship carrier said that on July 1, all six of its security screening gates at the terminal will be reopened.

Before the outbreak of the virus, JAL had been using four of the six security screening gates, but halted the use of two of them on April 17 as passenger numbers dropped as the virus spread in Japan.

In a bid to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus, JAL said it will monitor passengers' body temperatures using thermography equipment at the two security gates in the North Wing.

JAL also said it will create more space between passengers on its planes by keeping the middle seats empty.

As for Haneda's Terminal 2, used by All Nippon Airways (ANA) among other carriers, it has not yet been decided when it will be fully reopened, sources familiar with the matter said. Enditem
