KHARTOUM, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki on Thursday arrived in Sudanese capital Khartoum for an official three-day visit.

During the visit, Afwerki is to meet with Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, Deputy Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council Mohamed Hamdan Daqlu and Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, according to a statement from Sudan's sovereign council.

In 2018, the Sudanese-Eritrean relations witnessed tension, but after the ouster of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019, the two countries' relations witnessed a relative breakthrough.

In June 2019, the two countries agreed to open the joint border and facilitate the movement of citizens, though the deal has not been implemented on the ground. Enditem
