Ukraine sees more serious COVID-19 outbreak with nearly 1,000 new cases: PM

KIEV, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Thursday that the spread of COVID-19 has entered a more serious stage, with nearly 1,000 new cases reported over the past 24 hours, according to Ukrinform news agency.

"Growth continues from week to week. We got a wave of coronavirus," said Shmyhal during an extraordinary meeting, adding that the workload of hospitals has increased significantly, with hospitals in some areas more than 50 percent full.

The prime minister urged Ukrainian citizens to comply with quarantine rules and noted that those institutions and citizens who do not comply will be fined.

As of Thursday, a total of 40,008 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 1,067 deaths have been reported in Ukraine, while 17,758 patients have recovered. Some 994 new patients were tested positive for COVID-19 in Ukraine in the past 24 hours, hitting a record high. Enditem
