SOFIA, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Three officers of Bulgaria's General Directorate Combating Organized Crime (GDCOC) were arrested for providing support to drug production and distribution gangs, the Ministry of Interior said Friday.

The head of the GDCOC's Drugs Department and two of his subordinates were arrested on Thursday evening, the ministry said in a statement.

The evidence gathered so far indicates that the three officers have received bribes to provide logistics to organized criminal groups involved in production and distribution of drugs in Bulgaria and abroad, the statement said.

The investigation is still under way, it said.

Minister of Interior Mladen Marinov has ordered the preparation of a comprehensive analysis of the activities of the GDCOC, which is part of his ministry, with an emphasis on the Drugs Department, the statement also said.

"Based on the analysis, structural and personnel changes will be considered," it said. Enditem
