COVID-19 cases in Philippines rise to 34,803 with 738 new reported cases

MANILA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines soared to 34,803 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 738 new infections on Saturday.

The DOH said in its bulletin that the number of recoveries further rose to 9,430 after 249 more patients have survived the disease.

The death toll also increased to 1,236 after 12 more patients have succumbed to the viral disease, the DOH added.

According to the DOH, 297 of the daily reported cases were in Metro Manila, 207 cases in the Central Visayas region in the central Philippines and 234 cases in other parts of the country.

In a statement, the DOH said the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is due to the expanded testing and the increased mobility in different regions from eased quarantine restrictions. Enditem
