3 Albanians arrested for transporting 20 illegal migrants

TIRANA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Three Albanian nationals were arrested for transporting 20 illegal migrants via a border crossing in exchange for money, Albanian State Police said in a press release on Thursday.

According to the press release, the police operation was organized by the Local Police Directorate in Korca, southeastern Albania in cooperation with Border Police and Special Operational Police Forces.

All three arrested Albanians were residents in the capital city of Tirana and were aged 27-29, police said.

Between them, they were transporting 20 illegal migrants in exchange for 500 euros (563 U.S. dollars) per person as payment.

The detention of the illegal migrants was organized while they were traveling from the village of Ecmenik in the Devoll area, southeastern Albania.

The case will be followed by the Prosecutor's Office and the three arrested will face charges for the criminal offenses of "assistance in illegal border crossing, committed in collaboration" and "disobedience to the police officer order," the press release said. Enditem
