Turkey's total COVID-19 cases climb to 202,284

ANKARA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Turkey on Thursday reported 1,186 new COVID-19 cases, raising the country's tally of confirmed cases to 202,284.

In the past 24 hours, Turkey recorded 17 more deaths from the infectious respiratory disease, taking the death toll to 5,167, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted.

The tally of recoveries rose to 176,965 after 1,543 more patients recovered, the minister said.

A total of 1,067 patients are being treated in the intensive care units, and 372 others are intubated, he said.

Turkey conducted 49,714 tests for the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall number of tests to 3,483,677, Koca added.

Turkey, which reported the first COVID-19 case on March 11, has stepped up for the normalization process since June 1.

Turkey and China have supported each other in the fight against COVID-19. Chinese doctors and medical experts have held a video conference with Turkish counterparts to share China's experiences in treating coronavirus patients, protecting medical workers, and controlling the spread of the virus.
