PHNOM PENH, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has allowed all entertainment clubs and karaoke parlors across the country to be converted into restaurants following the temporary shutdown in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"To participate in economic activity and to give jobs back, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration allows the owners of entertainment clubs and karaoke parlors to reopen, but they must convert their venues into restaurants," Phnom Penh Municipal Governor Khuong Sreng said in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the owners are required to apply for operating licenses from the City Hall and must strictly adhere to COVID-19 prevention measures.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen decided on Friday during a Cabinet meeting that entertainment clubs and karaoke outlets nationwide could be reopened if they had been converted into restaurants.

"But they must strictly comply with measures set by the health ministry to prevent the spread of COVID-19," he said.

Cambodia has seen success in controlling the spread of the COVID-19. According to the health ministry, the Southeast Asian nation has recorded a total of 141 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date, with 131 patients cured and 10 remained hospitalized. Enditem
