NEW YORK, July 8 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Wednesday, bolstered by a broad upswing in big tech names.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 177.10 points, or 0.68 percent, to 26,067.28. The S&P 500 was up 24.62 points, or 0.78 percent, to 3,169.94. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 148.61 points, or 1.44 percent, to 10,492.50.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors advanced, with technology 1.6 percent, leading the gainers. Materials ended 1.46 percent lower, the worst-performing group.

Meanwhile, U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher, with nine of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Wall Street was still cautious as coronavirus cases continued to surge in the country.

More than 3 million confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in the United States as of Wednesday afternoon with nearly 132,000 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Enditem
