102 dead from natural disasters in Nepal in a month

KATHMANDU, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Over 100 people have succumbed to monsoon-led natural disasters like landslide, thunderbolt and flood in a month period in Nepal.

According to the data compiled by the Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), after monsoon activated on June 12, there has been several landslide, flood and thunderbolt incidents across the country, claiming 102 lives, injuring 120 people and 44 unaccounted for as of Monday.

There were 13 landslide incidents, 10 places witnessed heavy rainfall, flooding hampered three locations across the country in the last 24 hours only.

"The incidents killed 13 people and injured 14 people," the NDRRMA reported, adding that about 19 people are still missing while the search operations are being carried out.

The Nepali government has decided to prepare relief supplies and rehabilitate the affected people in the public buildings including schools.

The country's Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has predicted rise in water level in rivers and probability of flashflood in various locations. It was warned people to remain alert and evacuate to safe places. Enditem
