JAKARTA, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The number of auto sales in Indonesia rebounded in June after plunging more than half in the previous three months as the economy is reopening gradually.

Data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO) showed that the number of car sales spiked 75 percent to 29,862 units in June on a monthly basis, local media reported on Monday.

For the wholesales, the sales of the products from producers to dealers jumped by 255 percent in June on a monthly basis.

Business activities have picked up since June along with the imposition of tight health protocols after partial lockdown and physical distancing policy implementation which had led to the closure of car factories.

Indonesia first reported the COVID-19 cases at the beginning of March.

Domestic car sales have been frequently used to gauge private consumption in the country, and as an indicator showing the health of the economy.

In 2029, Indonesia sold 1.03 million cars domestically and shipped 843,000 others offshore, data from the GAIKINDO revealed. Enditem
