TEHRAN, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Jagarian on Monday criticized the U.S. government for imposing sanctions on Iran as a means to foist its demands.

Washington is not after negotiations with Iran but wants to impose its own conditions, Jagarian told Tasnim news agency.

"They (Americans) only pursue their own agenda. They don't even want to hold talks and only say 'either accept our conditions or face sanctions,'" Jagarian said.

Russia and Iran have been used to the U.S. sanctions, he noted, announcing Moscow's "readiness to deepen economic cooperation with Iran."

The Russian ambassador also voiced Moscow's opposition to the U.S. bid to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran which will expire in October.

"We will definitely oppose it, and the U.S. has no right to comment about this subject," he said. Enditem
