MOSCOW, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Russian fighter jets intercepted Norwegian and U.S. reconnaissance aircraft over the Barents and Black seas on Tuesday, the Russian defense ministry has said.

"Air targets flying towards the Russian state border were identified as a Norwegian Air Force P-3C Orion reconnaissance plane above the Barents Sea, and a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon, a U.S. Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft and a U.S. Air Force MQ-9A Reaper drone over the Black Sea," the ministry said in a statement.

After the planes flew away from the Russian border, Russian fighter jets returned to their airfields, it said.

The flights of the Russian aircraft were carried out in strict compliance with international rules for the use of airspace, it added. Enditem
