CAIRO, July 14 (Xinhua) -- A dozen of people were injured on Tuesday in a crude oil pipeline fire in the Egyptian capital Cairo, Egyptian Health Ministry said.

No fatalities have been reported, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the injured were admitted to the Al-Salam hospital in Cairo.

The ministry said that the injured suffered burns of various degrees as well as suffocation, adding that all the victims were receiving necessary care at the hospital.

Emad Abdel-Qader, head of the state-run Petroleum Pipelines Company, said in a statement that the fire, which broke out in the Shuqair-Mostorod pipeline near the Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road, had been successfully extinguished.

Abdel-Qader believed that a broken oil pipeline and a spark caused by the cars on the busy road led to the fire. The company immediately closed the pipeline's valves after the accident.

The official revealed that a technical committee has been formed to determine the cause of the accident, adding that the results will be sent to the security authorities. Enditem
