Turkey confirms 933 new COVID-19 cases, 216,873 in total

ANKARA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Turkey reported 933 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, raising the overall number to 216,873, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.

Meanwhile, 21 more people died, taking the death toll to 5,440, Koca tweeted.

Turkish health professionals conducted 42,411 tests in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall number of tests to 4,149,909, he said.

A total of 1,087 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 198,820 in Turkey since the outbreak, Koca said, noting 1,213 patients are being treated in the intensive care units and 394 intubated.

Turkey reported the first COVID-19 case on March 11.

Turkey and China have supported each other in the fight against COVID-19.
