"Nine wounded people were admitted at a main provincial hospital Friday morning. Some of the affected people sustained serious wounds," Haleem Ghafari from provincial health directorate told Xinhua.

The incident occurred when an improvised bomb struck a police convoy on the outskirts of Pul-e-Khumri in the morning, a provincial police source told Xinhua anonymously.

Provincial police chief Wais Samimi who was in the motorcade did not get hurt in the incident, he said.

The province has been the scene of heavy clashes between Taliban insurgents and government security forces within the past several weeks.
