HONG KONG, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from COVID-19 in Bangladesh reached 3,000 on Tuesday and Tokyo's daily cases rebounded to over 200. A resurgence of the virus has been seen in some Asia-Pacific countries.
Bangladeshi Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing that 2,960 new cases and 35 more deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll in the country to 3,000 and total cases to 229,185.
The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 266 new cases of coronavirus, amid rising concerns over the pace of the spread this month. The latest figure follows 131 cases confirmed on the previous day when the figure dropped below 200 for the first time in seven days.
India's federal health ministry reported 654 new deaths and 47,703 new positive cases, taking the number of deaths to 33,425 and total cases to 1,483,156.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 83,673 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,678 new cases, with the number of recoveries further rising to 26,617 after 173 more patients have survived the disease.
The cases in Indonesia rose by 1,748 within one day to 102,051, with the death toll adding by 63 to 4,901, the Health Ministry said.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo warned the people of a possible second wave of transmission. The warning came amid the resurgence of the pandemic in some foreign nations after the relaxation of lockdowns and reopening business activities.
Cambodia confirmed a new imported case, raising the total number of infections in the country to 226, said a Health Ministry's statement.
South Korea reported 28 more cases compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 14,203. The daily caseload stayed below 30 for two straight days, but it continued to grow in double digits due to imported cases and small cluster infections.
New Zealand reported one new case, with the number of active cases in the country remaining at 21, all in managed isolation facilities, according to the Ministry of Health.
