BISHKEK, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan's total COVID-19 cases reached 33,844 on Tuesday, after 548 new cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Eight of the new cases are medical workers, raising the tally of contracted medical workers to 2,691, Ainura Akmatova, head of the public healthcare department of the country's health ministry, told a daily news briefing.

Akmatova also reported 28 new deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1,329.

Total recoveries now stand at 22,296, with 1,091 new ones, she said, adding that 10,227 patients are currently receiving treatment in the country.

The pandemic situation in Kyrgyzstan has stabilized over the past week, with a decline in coronavirus cases, Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov said during a Tuesday briefing.

However, Boronov added that the epidemic situation remains critical in some regions -- particularly the city of Osh, the Jalal-Abad region, and the Issyk-Kul region.

Kyrgyzstan recorded its first infection with COVID-19 on March 18. Enditem
