PHNOM PENH, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia confirmed seven new imported COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, raising the total number of infections in the country to 233, said a Health Ministry's statement.
Four COVID-19 positive cases were found on Cambodian peacekeepers, who returned to Cambodia on July 10 from Mali after taking part in a United Nations peacekeeping mission, the statement said, adding that they are among a group of 80 returned Blue Helmet peacekeepers.
"Their samples were taken for the third tests by the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia, and the results showed on Tuesday that four peacekeepers were positive for the COVID-19," it said.
While three other new cases were detected on Cambodian men, who arrived in the kingdom on July 23 from Indonesia via a direct flight, the statement said, adding that their first tests turned out to be negative for the virus.
"Their samples were taken for the second tests, and the results showed on Tuesday that they were positive for COVID-19," it said.
All of the new patients have been admitted to the Chak Angre Health Center in southern Phnom Penh for treatment.
The Southeast Asian country has so far recorded a total of 233 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 154 patients cured and 79 remaining in hospital, the statement said. Enditem
