Macao's average occupancy rate of guest rooms decreases in first half year

MACAO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Macao's average occupancy rate of guest rooms was 27.2 percent in the first half of this year, a drop of 63.9 percentage points year-on-year, the special administrative region's (SAR) statistics service said on Wednesday.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) also indicated that the number of guests of hotels and guesthouses declined by 73.5 percent to 1,830,000, whereas their average length of stay went up by 0.2 night to 1.7 nights in the first half year.

A total of 109 hotels and guesthouses were open for business in June, and the number of available guest rooms decreased by 10.6 percent year-on-year to 35,000, the DSEC said.

In June the average occupancy rate of guest rooms fell by 77.6 percentage points year-on-year to 11.8 percent. Meanwhile, the number of guests checking into hotels and guesthouses reduced by 88.0 percent year-on-year to 134,000.

The average length of stay of guests extended by 0.3 night year-on-year to 1.7 nights in June. Enditem
