BANGKOK, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's construction tycoon Premchai Kanasutra was on Wednesday sentenced by the Appeals Court to a one-year jail term for offering a bribe in cash to government officials a few years ago.

The Appeals Court endorsed the ruling of the first court which found Premchai, chairman of Italian Thai Development Plc., guilty of attempted bribery for the officials of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation in exchange for not proceeding with a lawsuit against him in 2018.

The construction tycoon, alongside three other persons, had trespassed a national wildlife sanctuary in Kanchanaburi province to hunt for wildlife.

However, Premchai, who was released under bail worth 500,000 baht (about 15,864 U.S. dollars), is largely expected to proceed with the case in the Supreme Court. Enditem
