Belarus' foreign debt up 5.3 pct in H1

MINSK, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Belarus' foreign debt totaled 18 billion U.S. dollars, increasing by 5.3 percent in the first half of 2020, the country's finance ministry said Friday.

As of July 1, the country's foreign debt increased by 0.9 billion U.S. dollars, or 5.3 percent, compared with the level at the beginning of the year, the ministry said.

From January to June, Belarus attracted an external loan of 1.8 billion dollars, spending 786.2 million dollars to repay foreign debt.

As of July 1, domestic public debt amounted to 9.3 billion Belarusian rubles (about 3.8 billion dollars), increasing by 0.23 billion dollars, or 6.4 percent, since the beginning of the year.
