NEW DELHI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in India has improved to 2.15 percent from 3.33 percent in mid-June, said an official statement issued by the federal health ministry on Saturday.

This is said to be the lowest CFR in the country since the first lockdown imposed in the country on March 25.

"India continues to maintain the record of registering and maintaining the lowest COVID-19 mortality rate at the global platform," said the federal health ministry's statement.

It further said that this is a testimony to the focused, coordinated, pre-emptive, graded and evolving "Test Track Treat" strategy and efforts of the center government along with the state and union territories' governments.

Emphasis on early detection through aggressive testing and effective clinical management of the hospitalized cases have resulted in the continuously falling CFR indicating that India has been able to successfully contain the fatality rate of COVID-19, added the statement.

Besides a low CFR, the successful implementation of effective containment strategy, aggressive testing and standardized clinical management protocols based on a comprehensive standard of care approach have resulted in a consistent addition of more than 30,000 recoveries per day.

The recovery rate stands at 64.53 percent among COVID-19 patients.

According to the latest data, as many as 36,511 people have died due to COVID-19 in the country so far. Total cases have reached 1,695,988, with a single day spike of 57,118 cases from Friday morning till Saturday morning. There are 565,103 active cases across the country. Enditem
