Bangladesh's COVID-19 cases near 241,000 with falling trend in new infections

DHAKA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh has seen a moderate daily decrease in the number of new infections, with a total number of 3,154 deaths, according to the country's Health Ministry official on Sunday.

The country on Sunday reported 886 new cases and 22 COVID-19 related fatalities, with the total number of infections increasing to 240,746.

Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing that 3,684 samples, lowest in weeks, were tested in the last 24 hours in labs across the country.

She said the total number of recovered patients in the country stands at 136,839 with 586 new recoveries.

According to the official, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.31 percent and the current recovery rate is 56.84 percent.

Bangladesh recorded the highest 4,019 cases in a 24-hour period on July 2 and the highest 64 deaths on June 30. Enditem
