Indonesia sends cannabis narcotics owner to jail

JAKARTA, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian court in Bali Island on Tuesday sentenced a man to eight years behind bars for possessing 622.5 grams of cannabis narcotics and 0.37 grams of crystal methamphetamine, highlighting the country's serious battle against drug abuses.

Yoshua Karel Thalao, 30, was convincingly and legally found guilty of possessing, growing and providing the cannabis narcotics and crystal methamphetamine, presiding judge Hari Supriyanto told a court session at the high court in Denpasar city of the resort island.

Thalao shall also pay a fine for the violation, the judge added.

Thalao was arrested on April 10 in southern Denpasar city with scores of evidence seized from him, local media reported.

The Indonesian government has declared a war against drugs as the country is in a drug emergency for rampant drug abuses.

Dozens of drug offenders had faced firing squads for illegally spreading illicit goods in the country. Enditem
