Two huge explosions rock Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday, leaving at least 50 people killed and some 2,500 injured so far.
BEIRUT, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The explosions happened in Beirut on Tuesday resulted in more than 50 deaths and around 2,500 injuries, Lebanese Health Minister Hamad Hassan was quoted by al-Jadeed TV as saying.
Two huge explosions rocked Beirut at around 6:10 p.m. local time (1610 GMT), shaking buildings all over the capital city while causing heavy damage.

Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that Lebanon is an afflicted country while urging countries to help Lebanon in overcoming the repercussions of the disastrous explosions.
Primary information reveals that Ammonium Nitrate stored in a warehouse at the Port of Beirut may have caused the explosions.
"Customs' authorities must be asked about the reasons behind storing such chemical materials at Port of Beirut," Interior Minister Mohammad Fahmi said.

Meanwhile, Diab declared Wednesday a national mourning day for the victims of the explosions. ■
