KIEV, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian banks received 23.8 billion Hryvnia (855.5 million U.S. dollars) of net profit during the first half of this year, a drop of 23 percent year on year, the National Bank of Ukraine said Wednesday.
During the period, 59 out of 75 banks operating in Ukraine were profitable, according to the country's central bank.
PrivatBank remained the best performer, with profit at 14.4 billion Hryvnia (504.7 million dollars).
This year, the country's banking sector, as well as its economy as a whole, has suffered a decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, Ukraine's banking sector saw its net profit at 60 billion hryvnias (2.2 billion dollars), up almost three times. Enditem
