SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- South Korea decided Thursday to provide 10 million U.S. dollars of humanitarian aid to the World Food Programme (WFP) project for children and women in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The decision was made at the meeting of the civilian-government committee on inter-Korean exchanges, according to Yonhap news agency, citing the South Korean unification ministry, which is in charge of inter-Korean affairs.

The 10-million-dollar aid will contribute to the WFP project, under which about 9,000 tons of fortified food is to be offered to children under the age of seven and pregnant women in 60 counties in the DPRK.

The WFP project also included 3,600 tons of food aid, including corn, bean and cooking oil, for about 26,500 people who participated in infrastructure projects to prevent disasters in rural areas.

The delivery of the assistance is expected to take about four months and arrive in the DPRK by the end of this year. Enditem
